Absolute URLs are called in which all the mentioned sub strings are used. But in some cases only some or one location element is used, such URL is called Relative URL. Relative URLs are used in web servers and web pages as shortcuts to reduce the length of URL strings. URL Full Form

For example, the link of the same website is written in the format of Relative URL and Absolute URL.

Relative URL URL Full Form
<a href=”/2016/September/word-of-the-day-04.htm”>

equivalent Absolute URL
<a href=”http://thebestsiteever.com/2016/September/word-of-the-day-04.htm”>

The best thing that happens in this is that with the help of a web server, all the missing protocols and host information are automatically filled. But keep in mind that relative URLs can be used only in those places where Host and Protocol Information can already be established. URL Full Form

Type Of URLs

Messy: These are those types of URLs in which there are many numbers and letters from which some oraganization sense comes. For example, ‘http://www.example.com/woeiruwoei909305820580’. Generally these URLs are generated by the computer which creates thousands of web pages for the same domain name. URL Full Form

Dynamic: These URLs are also originated from the same place where Messy URLs came from. These URLs are the end result of a database query that provides content output in the result of any query. These also look like Messy URLs in which characters like ?,&,%,+,=,$ appear. They are mainly used in the websites used by the consumer such as any shopping, traveling websites in which the users keep changing their queries frequently so that the answers also keep changing.

Static: These are the exact opposite of any dynamic URL. This URL is completely hard wired with the webpage’s HTML coding. This URL never changes, no matter what the user is requesting.

Obfuscated: This is a very dangerous URL which is used in Phishing Scam. As its name suggests, they are hidden. Which is used very cleverly so that it looks completely original. So when a user clicks it, he redirects them to Malicious Website.

For the same reason, if a website asks you about your personal things like your banking details etc. then first of all do not forget to check whether it is a secure URL or not. And such a website should use some Security Protocol in its URL so that the consumer’s information is not misused. I advise you to take special care of all these things before giving any personal information.

Why characters are not used in URLs

We all must know that space is not used in the URL. But we should also know that according to RFC 1738, only alphanumeric characters and other characters like !,$,-,_,*,’,() are used in the string of URL. And if any other characters are used then it has to be encoded.
